About our school
At Surrey Downs Primary School, we are proud to be a supportive R–6 government school where every child is known, valued, and empowered to RISE – with Respect, Integrity, Strength, and Empathy.
We offer high-quality education in a nurturing environment, with tailored learning, excellent facilities, and a strong focus on wellbeing and character development. At Surrey Downs, we help every student RISE to their full potential—in the classroom, in the community, and beyond.
Our Vision – R.I.S.E. to Your Full Potential
Our vision is for every student to RISE:
Respect. Integrity. Strength. Empathy.
We are committed to creating a learning environment where every student is empowered to become a confident, capable, and compassionate individual. Our values guide everything we do—from how we teach and interact, to how we grow and lead.
These values are not just aspirational—they are lived, taught, and modelled every day through our Play Is The Way (PITW) program and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework.
We believe that students thrive when they feel safe, supported, and inspired to become their best selves. At Surrey Downs, we build strong learners and great people.
Our Values - R.I.S.E
Respect
We treat others the way we want to be treated.
We promote kindness, fairness, and inclusivity. Respect is at the heart of our school culture, helping all students feel safe and welcome.
Life Raft link: “Treat others as you would like them to treat you.”
Integrity
We do what’s right—even when it’s hard.
We teach students to be honest, take responsibility, and stand by their values.
Life Raft link: “Pursue your personal best no matter who you work with.”
Strength
We stay brave, focused, and resilient.
Through challenge and effort, we build perseverance and emotional strength.
Life Rafts: “It takes great strength to be sensible” and “Be brave – participate to progress.”
Empathy
We care for others and try to understand how they feel.
Empathy supports strong friendships, positive relationships, and a culture of compassion.
An outcome of PITW: becoming a person of good character.
Together, these values guide our students to become respectful, principled, resilient, and caring citizens—ready to make a positive difference in the world.

"From the moment our family joined Surrey Downs Primary School, we felt welcomed and supported. The staff genuinely care about each child, not just academically but emotionally and socially too. We've seen our child grow in confidence, resilience, and kindness—all thanks to the school’s nurturing environment and focus on strong values like respect and empathy. We love that the school teaches not just 'what' to learn, but 'how' to be a good person. It's a community we're proud to be part of."
